The Etruscan apartment, in an ancient building with massive walls, has a private entry (for two apartments only) up a stone staircase from the large square of Santa Maria in Castello, named after the beautiful, well preserved XIV century church which appears like a picture from the splendid view in the bedroom window.
The apartment is composed of a double and a twin bedroom, with a wardrobe, bed tables and iron wrought beds. The twin bedroom has also a chest of drawers. A corridor connects the sleeping area with a comfortable and spacious living room with a very high wood-beamed ceiling.
A dining table with chairs for 6, a fireplace, a sofa and two armchair provide full comfort for those who wish to stay at home. Two windows open onto a nice (neighboring) private garden.
From a third window the sea, in the far distance.
The windows and the opposite entrance door - when open - allow for fresh air to circulate even during warm seasons.
A spiral stairway leads to a large studio/loft with writing desk, a double sofa bed, with a television and videotape player.
The kitchenette is well equipped even for the longer periods that the owners, an Italian architect (who likes to cook) and his American wife, residents in Rome, have spent in this peaceful little town. There is a dishwasher, fridge and freezer, oven and stove.
In the corridor there is a bathroom with bath (with shower) and a washing machine.
The apartment is tastefully furnished with some antiques and selected pleasant country -style pieces. All windows are equipped with mosquito screens.
Grocery and all types of shops are within walking distance.
LOCATION
A mere one hour drive or train ride from Rome, the town is located 133m above sea-level on a plateau which overlooks the Marta River valley and the nearby Tyrrhenian Sea.
This part of the Maremma countryside, with nearby Tolfa and the view of the Argentario Promontory and island of Giglio, will enchant any visitor.
A good bus service connects the town to the train station and with Tarquinia Lido, a more modern town on the sea 15 minutes away, so a car is not strictly needed.
A few km from the Sea, this apartment is a good base also for visiting the Maremma and the whole Etruscan area.
In Tarquinia Lido there are the old salt marshes now a nature reserve where, in season, herons and flamingos live undisturbed.
8 km far the golf club and 20 km Acquapark.
Interesting towns like Tuscania, Viterbo, Capalbio and Mount Argentario are in less than a hour drive.

Also just outside the town, the Etruscan necropolis includes the most beautiful and well-preserved tombs of the ancient world, which bear witness to the cult of the dead of these fascinating and enigmatic people. In town, a rich Etruscan Museum has a rich collection of artifacts that help illustrate their history and lifestyle, also depicted in D.H. Lawrence’s famous book, Etruscan Places.
