Villa rental in Umbria
3 apartments - 3 bathrooms - 6/6/6 sleeps
On a hill surrounded by olive-groves, near Spoleto and Assisi, is situated the ancient fortified Custom House, part of a Castle that during the 2nd world war was destroyed. This tower was one of the customs between Umbria and Marche region.
It's a place where to spend pleasant holidays from March to September, though during winter the scenery is particularly charming due to the peaceful silence of the nature.
This outpost of the castle which dominates the entire valley, a real hamlet, is now a newly restored construction by use of local materials. In fact the ceilings are all in wood or flat tiles, the floors are in hand-crafted terracotta tiles and the doors are antique or decorated.
Everything has preserved the splendour and charm of that time, giving now the impression of being now in a small medieval hamlet.
The Hamlet, belonging to the same family since that time, is now divided into three 120-130 sq. metres apartments, belonging to the descendants Ugo, Livio and Flavio, each with a private terrace or exit with views on the valley. All apartments are similar and with same rental price.
Each apartment has a separate entrance, a fully-equipped kitchen, a very comfortable living-dining room with TV satellite, and a large fireplace.
Each apartment, even being very large, sleeps six persons in three double bedrooms, each with views on the valley, and two bathrooms (one with shower, one with bath).
The private terrace or exit is furnished and equipped for outdoor dining "al fresco".
This hamlet is part of the village of Campello sul Clitumno (2400 inhabitants), located near Spoleto(Perugia) in the Umbria region.
This town is one of a number of villages and towns of which the Umbrian countryside and mountains are scattered, divided in two parts, 2 kms far each other: High Campello and Low Campello. The hamlet is in the middle, 5-10 mins far walking, from both.
CAMPELLO SUL CLITUNNO is renowned not only for its beautiful location, but also because its SPAS were already mentioned in the Roman times by Propertius, Virgilio, and Plinio. Later by George Byron, Corot, and Carducci.
Inside this fairy-tale setting there is a charming little lake formed by those famous waters which were sacred to the Romans and from which temples were constructed in honour of Clitunno, the god of the river.
From mid-June to the end of July the Spoleto Festival takes place. It is a tourist attraction for show business.
The festival is a meeting point for the Italian, American, and European cultures. Today it is one of the major Italian festivals, famous worldwide.
